British actress KEIRA KNIGHTLEY has difficulty keeping movie props intact when she is on set - and often breaks crucial items during filming. The 22-year-old beauty was devastated when she broke both an exclusively designed Chanel necklace and a lighter while shooting period drama Atonement. She says, "I was wearing a Chanel necklace and it got stuck. "No one could budge it. We had to phone Chanel to ask if we could just break it. By this time the filming had come to a complete standstill. "I also had to light a cigarette and lighters always break for me on filmsets. At this particular moment the lighter had broken for about the millionth time so I'm actually going 'F**k, F**k,F**k!'"

She always buried herself in work rather than face her fears. But now, fresh from starring in Atonement, Keira Knightley has decided it's time to ditch all the earnestness and finally have some fun. She tells Justine Picardie why
'Don't forget,' instructs a publicist as she ushers me into the sumptuous suite at Claridge's where I am about to interview Keira Knightley, 'you're not allowed to ask her anything personal. Just stick to Atonement, OK?' This is to be expected - Knightley is apparently averse to journalists, after various speculative articles about her weight (or rather, a supposed lack of it) and her love life (with Rupert Friend, who appeared alongside her in Pride & Prejudice). Hence the deal is that she will talk only about her starring role in Atonement; so I am momentarily nonplussed by her opening gambit, in the first few seconds of our encounter. 'I haven't actually seen the finished version of the film yet,' she says, ' but I hear it's very good.'

 Keira Knightley braved the decidedly non-summer weather last night in a barely-there dress at the London premiere of her latest film Atonement.
The 22-year-old actress chose to wear a tiara and a Grecian-style floor-length dress, with a slash across the front revealing her enviable figure.
Fans were also won over by the actress as she signed autographs and greeted the crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the actors.

Keira Knightley flys in for UK premiere

 Keira Knightley has hit the red carpet for the UK premiere of her new film Atonement.
She was joined by co-stars James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave.
The film has already caused a frenzy at the Venice Film Festival, with critics tipping the actress for an Oscar nomination.
Directed by Joe Wright and adapted from a novel by Ian McEwan, it is being hailed as one of the strongest British films in years.
Knightley plays Cecilia Tallis, an upper-class beauty whose fledgling love affair with the housekeeper's son (McAvoy) is destroyed by a tragic misunderstanding.
The film is in competition for the Golden Lion award for best film.

Chanel is preparing a big budget prestige cinema advertisement, starring actress Keira Knightley, for its new Coco Mademoiselle perfume.
